DROPPING THE BOMB HOMEWORK

You are a close advisor to President Harry Truman in 1945. You are currently working with a team of scientists to help the President decide whether or not the United States should use this new weapon, the atomic bomb, or invade Japan in November like previously scheduled.

Use all necessary evidence to decide amongst various options:

You may want to decide on your own policy option, but here are a few:

1.    Drop the two bombs on two targets as quickly as is feasible;
2.    Drop one on a neighboring island of Japan as a demonstration. Only drop the second on a Japanese city if the Japanese govt. fails to surrender;
3.    Do not drop either bomb.
4.    Call for more diplomacy before doing anything…inaction as action.

Your job is to create
1. a policy decision that you think the president should make, and
2. The reasoning behind that choice.
