Our final project of the
quarter will be a portfolio that you will create based on your best historical
thinking.
You will answer the following
questions. Each response (except for #3)
should be approximately half a page, single-spaced, typed. (think about each as a long paragraph)
Clearly number your sections.
1. Which reading this quarter
impacted you most profoundly and why?
2. What impact would the study
of history have on your major? If you are undeclared, use your major area of
interest. If you are a history major, how has this course changed your thinking
about history?
3. Make an artistic
representation of some historical theme covered in this class.
4. Who is the most interesting
individual we have discussed this quarter?
5. Imagine a conversation
between yourself in 2013 and the historical character you mention in question
4. Write out the conversation. You can talk about anything, but you must answer
the following two questions within your discussion: what is it about 2013 that
would be most difficult for that person to understand? What is it about his or
her time that is most difficult for you to understand?
6. Some of the readings for the
course are How the Other Half Lives, Down
and Out in the Great Depression, Coming of Age in Mississippi, and Rumor of War.
Tell me one idea that seems to tie together these readings.
